QUANTRILL HOUSE

Carbon Saver were appointed to prepare a Planning Stage report for sustainable design solutions for the Quantrill House development, a refurbishment of an existing commercial building converted to 16 residential units.

A fabric first passive design approach to the building was proposed, to minimise energy demand for heating, lighting and cooling, thereby reducing the demand for energy and the carbon emissions as a priority. This was before considering the application of any alternative or renewable technologies.  Use of improved thermal elements, thermal mass, optimised daylighting, passive solar gain, building air tightness and natural ventilation are incorporated within the building design.

The systems proposed met the needs of the client and the building as well as the most efficient way of complying with the regulations and reducing operating and energy costs.
